A phlebotomist collects and prepares blood for testing so it can be analyzed in a medical laboratory. At Alexandria Technical & Community College, phlebotomy students learn necessary skills through classroom and laboratory experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the classroom training, you will be assigned to an affiliating clinical site for five credits of clinical experience. During this period, your work is under the direct supervision of a medical laboratory technician or technologist. Graduates of the Phlebotomy program are eligible to take the Board of Certification Examination of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
