I earned my BA in English from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and my MA in English, with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Applied Writing, from St. Cloud State University. I've worked as a writer and journalist, and I've performed some of my essays for radio. Although I'm not from rural Minnesota, my parents were from the Alexandria area, and my relatives were the 3rd settlers in Douglas County. I spent my childhood and teen years in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, but I returned to Minnesota to attend boarding school at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault. I lived in the Twin Cities for a number of years before my husband and I moved to Alexandria to raise our family. I'm grateful to have traveled around the world, but in that process I've learned that everyone has a story, and every story deserves to be written.

Education:
I was born and raised in Alexandria, MN. My parents met at ATCC! I teach in the biology and psychology departments and have a love for learning.
Outside of teaching and learning, on campus I serve as an Athletic Coordinator, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) advisor, and on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. Off campus I work in my private medical practice and serve on the Alexandria Dollars for Scholars Board, City of Alexandria Cultural Inclusiveness Committee, and the Douglas County Relay for Life Committee. My free time is filled doing DIY house projects with my husband, CJ, who is an Exercise Science Instructor, chasing after our three kids, or drinking coffee with our dog, Charlie Bou.

I have an undergraduate degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead in secondary education and a MS degree in Social Responsibility from St. Cloud State University. I have been teaching sociology at ATCC since 2007. I have a deep passion for understanding how our social world shapes who we become and how it influences our lives. Learning about society is important so that we can change it for the better. I find connecting with college students and helping shape how they see our social world an exciting adventure. I have four grown children, one sassy cat, one crazy cat and one dog who would prefer that the cats leave her alone.

I joined ATCC in 2000, and I teach Technical Writing, Ethics, and Intro to World Religions. Here at ATCC, I like that students are a face and name-- not a number. Together we laugh, mentor, question, and learn from each other. I also love how students keep me current and younger.

I joined the ATCC faculty in 2018. I think Psychology is a fantastic subject to teach (and learn) because it is all about us; humans are certainly complex creatures and that means there is a lot to learn (and teach)!
I grew up and currently reside a few miles outside of Bertha, which is about an hour from Alexandria. My country home is made complete by several furry children (4 dogs & 3 cats) and a couple of not as furry children (2 daughters). I’m typically always busy with something: volleyball, kayaking, biking, hiking, attending concerts & traveling. Life is an adventure!

I have a B.S. in Business Management from Saint John Fisher College in Rochester, NY and an M.A. in Speech Communication from Central Michigan University. I worked in mall management for a number of years before returning to college to pursue my dream job of teaching. I have taught communication classes since 2004. Before becoming a faculty member at ATCC in fall of 2018, I taught at Delta College, Saginaw Valley State University, and MState. One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to have students from almost all of the programs at the college. I am proud to be part of a vibrant college community. In my free time, I enjoy spending time at the lake with my family.

I have been fascinated by botany, anatomy, and the microscopic world since I was little, and now I am lucky enough to get to teach a little bit of all those things. I regularly teach Microbiology, General Biology I and II, People and the Environment, People and the Environment Lab, and Introduction to Biology.
I am a co-advisor for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on campus and the advisor for the LGBTQIA+ Student Club. I also currently serve on the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the Employee Association on campus.
In the summer I work with my mom on a sheep and chicken farm that uses sustainable and organic practices. I love spending my time outside with lots of different animals. I also grow tomatoes for the local farmer’s market most years and enjoy pruning and taking care of my plants. I love plants in general and have a lot of different plants at home and in my office. In my free time I make jewelry and paint, and I also love doing yoga, meditating, and biking.

I was born and raised in Casa Grande, Arizona. I have had the great fortune to have traveled and taught all over the country. Some of my favorite places to be are in a wild forest (let’s face it, counting mushrooms that I probably cannot identify), near a picturesque countryside (the one’s near picturesque diners that serve picturesque all-day breakfast and picturesque homemade pies), on a mountaintop (wheezing, but there), and on a beach (love the Oregon Coast… I am totally fluent in Sea Lion barks). Here are some of my random “likes”: 80s music (favorite band The Smiths), sci-fi films (favorites are Brazil and Blade Runner), and poetry (favorite authors: ee cummings, Charles Simic, James Tate, and Ai).
To quote The Beatles: “You say, ‘Goodbye’ and I say, ‘Hello, hello, hello’
I don't know why you say, ‘Goodbye’, I say, ‘Hello.’ ”
