1.3.5 Preferred Name
Current Alexandria Technical & Community College employees and registered students may request a preferred name be used for records that do not require a legal name. The preferred name will be used until the requestor rescinds the request in writing. The preferred name may be on records that exist after the student graduates or for an individual who no longer works at the college.
Alexandria Technical & Community College reserves the right to deny a requested preferred name if the requested name is inappropriate. In the event a preferred name request is denied, a written appeal may be submitted. Employee appeals are submitted to the President, and student appeals are submitted to the Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. The appeal decision is the final decision at the college.
Employees submit request to Human Resources. Students submit the request to the Registrar's Office.
- Requests for a preferred name change must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the beginning of a semester in which the change is to take effect.
- Individuals my request a preferred name change only once per academic year.
